Thursday 25th March 2010. Today, the National Council of the Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI) gave its backing to the proposal to merge its Institute with the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS), creating a united body representing these property and construction professions.

On Wednesday 2nd June 2010, IAVI and SCS members will attend separate Extraordinary General Meetings to vote on this proposal. If endorsed by the members of both organisations, the new body, representing over 4,000 individuals, will come into operation early next year.

According to IAVI President Aine Myler, “In-depth discussions have taken place over the last twelve months and our National Council has voted for this proposal as we believe it presents a significant opportunity for members nationwide.

“We are acutely aware that this is an important step for our profession and I urge members to attend local information meetings, participate in workshops and to approve this merger.

“The current economic climate makes a merger even more attractive. We have thoroughly examined the viability of this proposition and are completely satisfied that it will strengthen the voice and profile of the property and construction profession in Ireland.

“Combining our resources and experience will enable us to continue providing our members, clients and the public with the highest levels of service and expertise. It will expand our skills base and ensure that education standards remain high by providing the top level professional qualifications in property and construction in Ireland,” she said.

"It is proposed that an information pack will be distributed to members to explain the details of the proposal during the week commencing Monday 12 April. Members will also be invited to attend local information meetings hosted by representatives from National Council at the end of April and start of May.
“On Wednesday June 2nd, members of both organisations will decide on this merger. We encourage them to carefully consider the information they receive and take part in the information workshops in advance of this date, said Ms. Myler.
