IAVI IN RESPONSE TO THE PROPERTY SERVICES REGULATORY AUTHORITY BILL
13-May-2009
In response to the publication of the long-awaited Bill to establish the Property Services Regulatory Authority Bill, Ms. Aine Myler, President of the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute (IAVI), said the IAVI welcomes the publication of the Bill.

“We will study the text of this Bill fully to see how closely it follows the recommendations of the industry review group, which broadly endorsed a submission made by the IAVI in September 2004. The IAVI welcomes the introduction of mandatory professional indemnity insurance, educational standards for the industry and the proper control of client monies, regulations with which IAVI members already comply, but which are currently not the case for the unregulated sector of the industry. The IAVI represents almost 2,000 professionally qualified auctioneers, valuers & estate agents and has for many years called for regulation of the profession.

“Once we have had time to consider the full details of the Bill and ascertain the intended operational ethos of the PSRA we will make a more detailed statement,” she said.

According to the Bill, the Property Services Regulatory Authority will become the licensing authority to regulate and supervise the providers of property services, cause any complaints against those providers to be investigated and adjudicate on any such complaints and will provide for an appeals board for complaints in relation to the Authority.
