The Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI) quarter two residential survey shows an increase in activity levels and sales transactions nationwide. IAVI Members reported an increase in the net balance* of enquiries (+39%), viewings (+38%), offers (+34%) and sales agreed (+32%) although these were at a more moderate pace than the traditionally busier first quarter (see below).

01.12.09 The IAVI has described the banning of upward-only rent reviews in business leases by the Minister for Justice as a retrograde step and one that is not conducive to recovery in the property sector. In fact, following on from the ridiculous 80% windfall tax in the NAMA legislation, this Government seems intent on further undermining any recovery in the property market.

In response to the report by the Commission on Taxation, the Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute (IAVI) welcomes the abolition of stamp duty for principle private residences but said that the Minister for Finance must clarify the position with regard to this recommendation. Otherwise, the already limited number of transactions will grind to a halt; further diminishing tax returns to the Exchequer.
